About Zachary Youth Park

With youth in mind, a popular attraction for residents and visitors is the city-operated Zachary Youth Park Complex, housed on thirty-three acres. The park offers programs year-round for youth and adults of all ages.  The Zachary Youth Park, located at 1650 Mt. Pleasant Road provides facilities for baseball, softball, a half-mile walking track, and picnic areas.  The park is one of the only complexes around that has synthetic turf grass fields that provide year-round playing for young athletes in the area.

Zachary Youth Park is comprised of five turf fields, two t-ball fields, one high school softball field with locker room, and two high school/middle school baseball fields, as well as two covered batting cage areas and an indoor facility.  The indoor facility houses three batting cages, two pitching lanes, large locker rooms and a trainer facility for our high school sports.  There are three concession stands located throughout the park, which serve a variety of refreshments, as well as bathroom facilities.

Numerous tournaments are held throughout the year, hosted by Capital City Baseball, formerly Marucci Elite, Legendz, USSSA, and the recent North vs. South softball tournament hosted by St. Amant High School. The tournaments often allow players opportunities to showcase their talent in front of college and professional scouts. Along with these tournaments are several coed softball benefit tournaments and fundraisers for church youth groups and charity organizations.  In addition to tournaments, the park has youth baseball and softball leagues, adult coed softball leagues, and a homeschool league. The high school baseball and softball teams play their games at the park.

Though the Youth Park is considered a baseball and softball complex with several grass fields and synthetic turf fields primarily, other family events are held there during the year. The annual Easter egg hunt, hosted by the Zachary Charity League is held each April.  In May, festival goers can enjoy Zfest, a family-oriented event that includes booths, games, carnival rides, food, and entertainment, hosted by the Zachary Chamber of Commerce.

The park also serves as an emergency staging area for the city during severe weather conditions and is a place to protect citizens and local assets. Concrete surfacing and a roundabout were added to help guide vehicles to a covered awning area during weather-related emergencies. A sandbagging machine, capable of filling about 54 bags in 30 minutes can be made available to citizens in the event of a hurricane, severe weather or other natural disaster occurrences.

Connected to the Youth Park is a Baton Rouge Recreation (BREC) and Park Community Park, which includes an outdoor basketball court, three fishing lakes, two dog parks, skate park, two sand pit volleyball areas, hard-surface walking paths, picnic areas and pavilions.

The newest attraction at the Zachary Youth Park is its $110,000 playground structure, installed in the spring of 2015.  The playground was funded in part by capital outlay funding.  The thickness of the structure’s landing area is made from recycled tires, measured in relation to the fall height or the highest point of the structure. The playground equipment meets all requirements set by the American National Standards Institute.

Overall, it’s a great place for kids to play America’s favorite past time and families to enjoy a day of wholesome fun and fitness.
